Dr. Rajesh Malhotra is a globally renowned orthopaedic surgeon, revered for his exceptional surgical skills, unwavering dedication to teaching, and significant contributions to academia. With an illustrious tenure of 44 years at the prestigious All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, he not only elevated India's standing in the field of medical sciences but also held distinguished positions such as Chief of JPN Apex Trauma Centre and Professor and Head of the Department of Orthopedics.

Widely recognized for his consummate professionalism, empathetic approach, and outstanding communication abilities, Professor Malhotra has pursued numerous esteemed national and international fellowships to continually refine his diagnostic, surgical, and research acumen. His expertise has been disseminated through over 1100 invited lectures across the globe, leaving an indelible mark on the medical community.

An accomplished author and editor, Dr. Malhotra has published 14 books and contributed 64 chapters to various prestigious national and international publications. Furthermore, he has authored over 1000 research articles in esteemed journals, garnering acclaim as the most impactful and productive author on joint replacement in India. His outstanding contributions have also earned him a coveted place among the top 1% researchers worldwide, as recognized by Stanford University.

Throughout his career, Professor Malhotra has performed 32 live demonstration surgeries at national and international conferences, showcasing his pioneering techniques, surgeries, and innovations. His groundbreaking initiatives have often been at the forefront of medical advancements, with several being world-firsts. Notably, he established India's first cadaveric bone bank at AIIMS and holds the distinction of being the first surgeon worldwide to perform four joint replacements in a single sitting. Additionally, he introduced Day Care hip replacement and hip replacement through a bikini incision in young women, achieving exceptional cosmetic outcomes alongside excellent functionality.

Among his notable achievements, Professor Malhotra's contributions in partial knee replacement, computer-assisted partial knee and total knee and hip replacement, complex revisions of hip and knee replacements, and diagnosis of infections in Orthopedics, particularly infected joint replacements, have significantly impacted the field.

Demonstrating his humanitarian spirit, Dr. Malhotra played a vital role in rescue operations during the Bhuj earthquake and actively participated in charitable initiatives in various community centers. He is a familiar face and voice in the media, having featured in over 300 radio and television programs, and has delivered numerous public lectures to raise awareness about bone and joint health.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Malhotra fearlessly led the COVID facility at AIIMS Trauma Centre, displaying exceptional dedication and selflessness. Furthermore, he spearheaded the battle against osteoporosis and authored a book on Exercises for Bone Health. Through initiatives like SATHI (Save The Hip Initiative) and SSAHARA, he has tirelessly worked to prevent osteoporotic fractures, particularly hip fractures known to be life-threatening. His influential work will soon see him assuming the role of President of the Asia-Pacific Osteoporosis and Fragility Fracture Society.

Having served as the President of the Indian Orthopaedic Association in 2018-19, Dr. Rajesh Malhotra is highly regarded as a surgeon par excellence, transcending borders and attracting patients from around the world who seek his expertise in orthopaedic treatments, including joint replacements, revisions, and various traumatic and non-traumatic orthopaedic conditions. Recognized with several national awards, the most prestigious being the BC Roy National award in 2014, he remains an active member of numerous national and international organizations while also contributing his expertise to governmental and research bodies.
